The ITAKA – Centre For Missing People

The ITAKA – Centre For Missing People is a Polish foundation whose mission is to provide comprehensive psychological, social and legal support and help for the families of missing persons. ITAKA will bring its field expertise on international child abduction and missing people, and more specifically on the support families need, as they have already experimented the implementation of a Support and Mediation Centre financed with Norwegian funds and they are observing the increase in the number of family conflicts. The ITAKA Foundation runs 116 000 helpline in Poland known as Telefon w Sprawie Zaginionego Dziecka i Nastolatka, a support and Mediation Centre for Families at Risk of Parental Abduction, a Support Line for families of missing persons, 24-hour Support Centre for People in Mental Crisis, an Antidepressant Helpline and a Youth Helpline. Jagiellonian University in Kraków(JU) is one of the oldest universities in Europe and leading research institution in Poland, conducting research across a wide range of disciplines. At the Faculty of Law of the UJ there is a unit dedicated to research on private international law, including family international law and child abduction. Its recently participation in an international project titled “Protection of international families with links to the European Union post-Brexit: Collaborative Scotland-EU partnership” within which child abduction proceedings in cases including UK and Poland were researched can add value to this project. Together with the other universities and under the leadership of UniGe, JU will take part to the research under WP2.
