Presenting the iCare2 Project and the Role of Child-Centred Mediation at VOICE IT 2025

  • News

On 14 of November 2025, Law and Internet Foundation, partner in the iCare2 project, participated in VOICE IT 2025 – the largest youth forum of the National Network for Children and MEGAFON Youth Network in Bulgaria, bringing together young people, institutions, specialists, and civil society organisations to discuss key issues related to children’s rights and well-being. This year, our participation was dedicated to presenting the iCare2 project, focusing on international family mediation in the best interest of the child.

At our information booth, we engaged with numerous young people, parents, teachers, and professionals from the social and educational sectors. We explored the concept of mediation and, importantly, how it can be adapted to be safe, supportive, and effective for children. Child-friendly mediation puts the child at the center, respects their voice, and creates a structured and sensitive environment where they can participate meaningfully.

It was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the iCare2 project activities at the national level, including the development of tools, training materials, and good practices that help professionals handle cases of international child abduction and cross-border family disputes, ensuring that children’s rights and well-being are at the center of all procedures. Many visitors expressed interest in how the project supports families, facilitates judicial cooperation across borders, and provides guidance for professionals working with children in complex legal situations.

The topic also sparked strong interest among participants, who asked questions about the role of legal and social professionals in safeguarding children, how children’s voices are included in cross-border proceedings, and the practical ways iCare2 tools can support families in resolving these sensitive cases.

Our participation in VOICE IT 2025 was an invaluable opportunity to showcase the project’s efforts to create a safer, more supportive, and fairer environment for children involved in high-conflict international situations. We look forward to future initiatives where we can continue promoting child participation and effective approaches to conflict resolution.
